Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as the label's the first artist of female gender for Dreamville Records by J. Cole. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on 16 July 2018. A music video then released in September. In November, she dropped two singles titled 40 Shades of Choke and Grampa. In November 2013, she released No One, and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track that she recorded with Cole for Creed II's soundtrack on November 16th. It then came out as a standalone single in February of 2019 to coincide with her debut album. This track, which was launched with a music video posted on YouTube February 20, 2019 has been watched over 3 million times in the first seven days. In December 2018, she performed as a supporting act on the From East Atlanta With Love Tour with 6LACK.
